I had never known the magical wonders that belong to a creek previous to owning a piece of one of the largest creeks in the northlands. Growing up in Ohio, we had lakes, ponds and rivers, but I had never been to a “creek”.  A tributary to a local river,  it is more than 40′ wide and over 10′ deep in some places.  I don’t think I could ever own another piece of property without one. It’s magical. The history, the sounds, the smells are all therapy for your soul. It brings you back to simpler times to connect with nature and the Universe.  I love that my children and their friends spend so much time playing, swimming and frolicking in the water. We collect “Indian beads” and have even found a native American “tool”.  Many of our friends have taken precious keepsakes home with them in the form of blocks of quartz, rocks, shells, fossils, beads and more. We have a strict, “You find it, you keep it” rule with our guests, so it’s always an adventure and everyone is on the hunt for something spectacular. The sheer peace the creek environment brings to your soul cannot be compared. When I start to feel tense and stressed out by this crazy life, I head down to the creek to reconnect with what’s important and what really matters. It keeps my head straight. It clears my mind. There is no other place on this earth that I love as much as being down at the creek. (Not even the ocean….) Watching the creek rise and fall (sometimes 5 feet in an hour) is fascinating. Witnessing the seasons change around this massive pool of water is simply breathtaking. The sheer power of the water that moves through this creek is amazing as it can uplift and carry 150 year old trees during a storm effortlessly.  Finding this peaceful space has really helped me battle through the trials and tribulations of life and all that it throws at us. Often times I think about the Indians that made this their home and how life must have been so hard through the bitter cold winters. I think about how incredible it would be to walk them up the property to show them our modern day homes and lives. How they would feel like they hit a 10 billion dollar lottery to live like we do today. Humbling, huh? It is one of my greatest blessings. If you are ever on the hunt for land, do yourself a favor and make sure it includes a large, bustling creek to make your home and change your life.
